With the scheduled Spring Training being held on March 13th (Truck Company Operations) it was decided to role the monthly meeting into the training day
Our February meeting is scheduled for the 16th at 6:30 pm. We will be back at Mulligans on 2nd Ave. in Nashville. Brother Brasells will have FOOLS Jeopardy for our monthly training topic.
Look forward to a good night with the brotherhood. We welcome all interested brothers, new, or current brothers to attend!!
We have begun 2010 and it's time to set the tone for another great year. As we plan our first meeting, we have several things to square away. Here's where we'll begin:
Our 1st meeting of the year will be on January 20th. I think this date will allow the majority of our membership to attend.
We'll hold this meeting at Beef 'O' Bradys in Brentwood. We'll shoot for a start time of 6:30. (Click on the picture for their website.
With it being the first of the year, half of the e-board positions are open for election. This year (even), we'll hold the election for President, Sec./Treas., Membership Trustee, and Website Trustee. Our Current V.P. (Joe Polenzani), Merchandise Trustee (Geoff Manfree), and Training Trustee (Dave Brasells) will remain in their positions until next year (odd). Please contact any of your current e-board members (phone, e-mail, face-to-face, etc.) to nominate a current member that is in good standing for any of the e-board openings. All those nominated will be presented to the general membership at the 1-20-2010 meeting. An election will be conducted at this meeting and the results will be presented to the general membership.
The first of the year also brings our annual membership dues. We must pay a certain amount to the International (based our # of members) with the remainder (not much) being put back into our chapter. Please come to the meeting on January 20th prepared to get this squared away. We must pay the International by no later than 1-31-2010.
Your help with this immediate need is greatly appreciated.
All our chapter merchandise will be at the meeting for purchase, we'll have a short training segment, look forward to future meetings and events like the FDIC and the FOOLS Convention, and share the brotherhood that comes with being part of the greatest profession in the world.
If anyone has any questions, please contact a member of your e-board. Keep an eye on our website for updates, information, etc. It's a great tool to keep us all in the loop.
Thanks for your time, get your nominations in, and I hope to see you on the 20th. Stay safe. Trey
No meeting in December. Please check back the first week in January for the next meeting and our executive board elections. If you are interested in learning more or applying for a position, see President Nelms. Merry Christmas!
This months meeting will be held on November 7 at the Brad Hucherson Memorial Fire School. We need our members to assist in setup and tear down. Any help that you are able to give will be appreciated! If you can help, please contact Trey Nelms or Dave Brasells asap and let them know.
On Thursday, October 22 we are holding our 2nd annual "Putt Putt" golf tournament. This tournament is open to all Middle TN FOOLS and potential FOOLS.
Last years champion was Greg Wild of Franklin Fire, who won 2 tickets to see the Titans play.
Bring some spare change as every hole is worth something while you battle for the grand prize this year. 2008 Tournament Players
Bring a cigar, bring a friend, and come out with us this year as this we will have a quick meeting and explanation of the rules, then play!
As always, Brotherhood was experienced by all 15 players. Jamie "The Probie" Barnes walked away as the 2009 winner with a custom made challenge coin and two tickets to see the Titans play. Congrats to Jamie and thanks to the others for making this tournament a success. Check the photo gallery tab for the rest of the pictures.
This months meeting will be at the Cigar Station in downtown Spring Hill. It's been a year since we last visited "The Station" and will be there September 15 @ 1830. We will be out on the deck, under the stars. They sell cigars and micro brewed beer. We will start the meeting at 1830 and order pizza at 1900. We have many things to discuss. Please bring someone who might want to join. Don't miss this one!
Back to Mulligans we go. We will start at 1830 and usually finish around 2100. We have several issues to talk about this month so try and attend. Why don't you try and call some other members and carpool to save on the gas and parking fees. Bring a friend and introduce him and allow him to see what the FOOLS are about! Check the calendar often as we have a major event coming this November!
July 28Th. I know, this is on the same shift as June, but it was the only 2 for 1 offered!. We'll make it up to everyone in August. This months meeting is our "Family Night" while we enjoy the Sounds kick some arse. Get there early so we can all sit together. Bring the wife and kids. Wear a F.O.O.L.S. shirt and share the Brotherhood!
The June meeting was held at our "Home Base" at Mulligans Pub in Nashville. The meeting centered around Brotherhood and Passion for the job. Some Haz Mat training was done thanks to Dave.
This month we welcomed in two more members into our chapter. As we continue to grow, it's important not to forget what we stand for. We are concerned about quality, rather than quality and it appears that we have both! We appreciate all members who attended this meeting with 25 Middle TN FOOLS present. That's almost 50% of our total membership. The executive committee tips our lids to you guys! We appreciate you taking the time and arranging your schedules to make our meetings a success. This was a great night to enjoy some food and spirit amongst Brothers!
Our monthly meeting in April was held at the FOOLS Brotherhood Bash in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. We had a table reserved for merchandise sales and sold some shirts, hats, coins and helmet stickers. We now have shirts as far northeast as New Jersey (Thanks Art) and as far north as Alaska (Thanks Ben) and I think we also have some on the west coast.
Thanks to the Pleasant View Team for bringing the generator and manning the table. Several of us tried to become part of this elite sales unit, but weren't able because in order to qualify, you needed a mustache to be accepted. (See picture below). We met with old friends, made new ones and had some adult beverages while enjoying a cigar, or a pipe-WTF??). The only thing missing, was other members from our chapter. Next year, we will be renting three tables and need three times as many members to sell our stuff. So, the only advice I can give you now is start growing the mustache!
See the "Photo Gallery" tab for more pictures from the Bash!
In March, we are back in Nashville, but not at "Our Home Base". As any good Irish lad will tell ya, the green beer at Mulligans never tastes better than on St. Patty's night. Well my fellow FOOLS, our meeting is on that night and we thought avoiding Mulligans would be in our best interest. So, come join us as we will have many items to discuss including the trip to FDIC and the Brother Bash. Don't miss this meeting as it promises to be fun! Click on the picture of Joe's for their site. It's only a couple of blocks from Mulligans, so we will keep the meeting short if you intend on patronizing them that night as well.
10 FOOLS found the time to celebrate St. Patty's Day on the deck of Joe's Crab Shack in downtown Nashville. We would like to welcome Bill Armistead from Arrington Fire Department as our newest FOOL. Jeff Huddlestons wife (2009 Mrs. TN) came by after finishing off several Martini's just up the street. Jeff was heard saying proudly "That's not only my wife, but my designated driver as well" See the photo album for additional pictures. After a toast to our fallen Brothers and several cigars we adjourned for the evening to let several members continue to celebrate!
After a brief but productive e-board meeting, we started the nights activities with a toast to our fallen Brothers and continued with some new items and general announcements. Our training was centered around ropes and knots and followed up by some general fire service trivia. Congratulations to Chief oortese for being the overall winner and also taking home the door prize! A special note about persiverance. On several occasions, Cory was trying to make a connection with a member of the staff. After several attempts and crashing & burning, he still would not give up! Better luck next time Cory! ---KTF--- Brother Doug Bowman joined us even though it was his Birthday. Thanks Doug and we all hope you liked the serenade and maybe we can do it again next year. Thanks to the Tin Roof for reserving the second floor for us. Remember to patronize them sometime with your family for lunch or dinner!
The Brothers from Putnam County
"Happy Birthday Doug"
"I would rather be here, than at work tonight"----Dave.
Our January Meeting started at Baileys in Nashville and then we went and watched the Predators get their ass kicked at the Sommet Center. Although our team lost, we had a great night of Brotherhood during and after the game. A special thanks for Fellow F.O.O.L. Sean Donovan for coordinating this event.
"So Sean, are those the players way down their"?
"Don't bother me while I'm drinkin'
Fellow Firefighters, Cold Beer and Hockey--Life doesen't get any better!
Our December meeting was held at Stogie's in Brentwood. We started with a toast to our fallen Brothers (RFB). We welcomed 6 new members, one from White House, one from Franklin and 4 from Putnam County. We are glad to have these new Brothers join us in our ever growing chapter. Doug Bowman from the Franklin Fire Department was the door prize winner that will allow him to brew his own beer at home (his wife will be thrilled). After ordering some pizza, we split into two teams and played some "Fire Service Jeopardy" where team #1 won, with Rick Havrilla serving as the team Captain. We finished the night about 2100 and are already looking forward to the next time we can get together.
Doug--"Hey Greg, whatever you do, don't post this." / Greg--"ok"

November Meeting
As we do every other month, we met at our home base in Nashville, on the 2'nd floor overlooking scenic 2'nd Ave. We had 18 members show up and handed out more applications. After RFB with a toast and a round to each other, we shared some news and events and talked training. Several items were discussed and positions were determined by acclamation (Please see home page for results). After a few hours of Brotherhood, we called it a night and are looking forward to the next one! So, do you have a preferance of where to hold the first annual Christmas party? Thoughts and ideas should be submitted to Joe @ Joepolenzani@midtennfools.com Click on the picture for more information.
Ok, who's driving Rob Home?
So, you want to be a F.O.O.L. huh?---Well, here's your application Brother!
On a chilly Tuesday evening we once again had 18 firefighters together to not only finish up on some things relevant to the chapter, but shared stories and cigars. Not to mention increased their beer sales by about 500%. We also had 3 firefighters become members as we are actively striving to reach our goal of 100 members in 140 days. We hope to have a 100 active F.O.O.L.S. on our books before the 2009 Brotherhood Bash in Indy.
Our night was started with the "Ritual of the Can" and all members present toasted our Brothers who have fallen. We had a Presidents report and a Treasurers report about our financial status. We discussed our newly launched website and how important it was for everyone to contribute. After the pizza arrived and we easily finished two giant pizzas and 40 wings we had our first monthly training which was conducted by Greg as we played a round of "Obey the Boot, F.O.O.L.S. Edition". The night ended on a positive note and all in attendance are already looking forward to the next "gathering of F.O.O.L.S. in Nashville, in November
"So, according to IFSTA's, IV'th Edition, chapter 6, page 82, it says here that......."
"I think Joe's talks more than Greg" At least Greg's better to look at!
Have you ever seen the Captain Morgan commercials?
"So, when you go here, then do this, or consider this, blah, blah, blah"
"Does Greg ever just quit talking?"
Who says that the Brotherhood is missing in the Fire Service? We don't!
A good time was had by all who attended the September meeting, held at the Family Golf Center. After a toast to our fallen brothers (RFB) and a brief meeting, we gathered for the start of the "First FOOLS Fall Golf Tournament". We chose our putters carefully and gathered our balls (no laughing here please). We then split into two teams and played 18 holes with a grand prize of two tickets to see the Tennessee Titans on September 28. Newest member, Jamie "Probie" Barnes won $8.00 before the end of the tourny. 7 FOOLS were in the tournament, with Greg Wild posting the overall lowest putt-putt round for 18 holes. Greg took a vacation day and attended the game with his father. Those in attendance, although not winning any Titans tickets had a great night of Brotherhood and Fellowship. FTM-PTB
Luckily, no-one was injured during the match!
Please raise your hands if your sick of second hand smoke while golfing!
